REMEMBER THIS IS BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK....
We will meet the afternoon of Thursday March 6, at the restaurant in Chisos Mountain Lodge. We'll discuss where and what we will be doing for the next two day's activities. We will finish around Midnight, weather permitting on March 7. Most of the photos will be landscapes but I have seen black bear, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, blackhawk's, Rocky Mountain blue jay's, and javelina's. Expect moderate to heavy walking/hiking during the tour. We'll also go to Terlingua and take photos of the old town, cemetery, bar/saloon and old church. So, bring wide-medium and large format lenses. Also bring a good tripod and a bottle of air or rocket blower to keep you camera and lenses free of dust.Be sure to pack sturdy hiking boots and long pants. There is a ton of cactus I've been lucky, and have see only a few snakes in the area, but they are there. Wear long sleeves, and bring a large=brim hat and a gallon of sunscreen. Also bring a walking stick (or buy one at the Chisos Mountain store). You'll want to buy extra water before you get to the park area because it expensive to buy locally. I buy 3 cases (24oz. bottles). Temperatures usually range from mid to upper 90's to lows in the mid 40's. A light-to medium-weight jacket might feel good. Also, bring a flashlight or some type of head lamp.
Lodging is limited. The best place to stay is the Chisos Mountains Lodge, (and you'll need to make reservations for this place as soon as possible) located in the middle of the park. You can also camp out in a tent or motor home in the park, bu you'll need advance reservations. The next closest lodging is 30+ miles away in Study Butte and Terlingua. The closest major airports are El Paso (329 miles away) and Midland-Odessa, (222 miles away).
